• Upgrading/Replacing my PS3 HDD

I figured that it was time to upgrade my 40GB HDD to one with a larger capacity.  Bought myself a Western Digital 320GB 5400RPM as the replacement.

Before I took it out, I lastly synced my trophies to the server and backed up my system.

    Pop off the cover.

    Unscrew the blue screw.

    ps3hddre (2)

    Pull the hdd out.

    ps3hddre (3)

    Unscrew all four screws.

    ps3hddre (4)

You will encounter some tight screws.

My screws became stripped. It was frustrating.

    Moe Moe Kyun!

Where is my replacement hard drive?

Now just place the new hdd in the slot and screw back the four screws.

    ps3hddre (10)

    Place it back.

    ps3hddre (11)

    Screw the blue screw back.

    And, pop in the cover.

    Easy breezy and I’m Japanesey.

Once I loaded up my PS3, this screen appears. Says "The system software cannot be run correctly"

Nothing that google can’t do.  Just create a folder called “PS3″ and another folder inside called “UPDATE”.  Now, download this update from Sony.  Drag the “PS3″ folder to your usb, and voila!  Everything else should be straight froward.  Just follow the instructions.

I have encountered some problems for this very easy process.  I do not know why, but my back up couldn’t be read.  I had to replace the hdd again and make a new back up.

Now that I installed all my games, I got to say that they look ugly compared to Uncharted 2.

Good thing my PS3 HDD is not full and I use my Xbox 360 more often than my PS3…
I would hate to go through that process…
