  • Day 8: Shinjuku

    August 16, 2009

    Posted in: Japan, Vacation

Today was another nice sunny day.  For the first time, I had to buy two drinks.  I got ripped off by 12 yen for one of them.

    shinjuku

I arrived at Shinjuku at 10am.

    shinjuku (1)shinjuku (2)

I started Shinjuku by checking out the east side.  It is more office buildings and more professional.

    shinjuku (4)shinjuku (3)

First building I checked out was the Shinjuku L tower.  It wasn’t opened when I arrived there.  Or maybe it doesn’t open on Sunday.  Oh well, I didn’t have time to wait around.

    shinjuku (5)

    Cone head building.

    shinjuku (6)

I think this is the Pentex Forum.

    MOE MOE DREAM TWO!!!

    shinjuku (10)shinjuku (11)shinjuku (12)

    Walking to next destination.

    shinjuku (17)shinjuku (14)shinjuku (13)

The next building was the Shinjuku Sumitomo Building.  I went up to the 51st floor.  The elevator was fast.  I had to pop my ear.

    shinjuku (15)

The Metropolitan Government Office and I.

    shinjuku (16)

    The ground floor outside.

    shinjuku (19)shinjuku (18)

open source video, online video platform, video solution

I went across to check out the Metro Gov’t Bldg.

    shinjuku (21)shinjuku (23)shinjuku (22)shinjuku (24)

Just across from that is the Shinuku Chou Park.   There are a lot of homeless people here.  The front of the park has a bunch of flea market/ garage sale laid out on the floor.  I bargained and bought a shirt.

    shinjuku (26)

    There is a pool area.

    shinjuku (25)

The cone head building view from the park.

    shinjuku (27)

While walking towards the west side, I got a free drink.

    shinjuku (28)shinjuku (29)shinjuku (30)shinjuku (31)

The streets of the west side of Shinjuku.  Looks a lot different.

    shinjuku (33)

On the west side, I first checked out the garden.  I Don’t remember the name.

    shinjuku (34)shinjuku (32)

There is an admission fee of 200 yen.  The garden is huge and beautiful.  Much better than Imperial Palace.

    shinjuku (35)shinjuku (36)shinjuku (39)shinjuku (37)shinjuku (38)shinjuku (40)shinjuku (41)shinjuku (42)shinjuku (44)shinjuku (45)shinjuku (47)shinjuku (46)shinjuku (48)

Doesn’t this leaf look like the Mighty Ducks?

    shinjuku (49)shinjuku (50)shinjuku (51)shinjuku (52)

    Looks like a face.

    shinjuku (53)

The park is about 1km in length.  My knees were aching.  Unfortunately there were no checkpoints throughout the garden.

    shinjuku (54)shinjuku (55)

I visited the bookstore.  It has 8 floors.  I would have stayed longer but they didn’t have any seats. By now my feet were killing me. I even have a gel pad inside my shoes.  I wonder how much my feet would have felt without them.

    shinjuku (56)shinjuku (57)shinjuku (58)

    Passed by another shrine.

    shinjuku (59)shinjuku (60)

Then I walked around Kabukicho district.

    shinjuku (61)shinjuku (62)shinjuku (63)shinjuku (64)shinjuku (65)

WHAT THE EEFFFF!??! I think I saw you walk into this store, Mark.

    shinjuku (66)

Some areas are like the red light district.  One man approached me and the only word I recognized was “oppai” (boobs)

    shinjuku (67)shinjuku (69)shinjuku (68)

I randomly grabbed some free magazines in the red light district.  Only to see chicks and boobs.   These were heavy in my bag.

I don’t have anything planned out for tomorrow.  It is my last day and my goal is to spend the rest of my money on clothing and anime figures.  Obviously not all my money, but the money I have exchanged for Yen.
